Interactivity #4

I choose this lesson plan because i thought it was a great opportunity to combine the history of books and technology. I thought a perfect way to incorporate technology into this lesson plan would be with in the finding and communication process. In order to complete this project you must first choose a concept, after doing this it is important for the students to take charge and find objects and materials to create a mixed Media work of art. For the objects to correlate with their concept they will need to hunt for specific subject matter. This is where the Internet gets involved, they are able to use the Internet and numerous websites to search and ask for what they are in search for. Another large portion of this lesson is in the technique of using tools to apply the mixed media components. They are able to use technology to research what it the best way for them to do this. A website i would suggest is http://www.thistothat.com/. The ability to use tools appropriately will result in a artwork that will be able to last through time rather than fall apart. While on ly having one book as their canvas they will need to plan and problem solve.

Interactivity #2

Who needs a babysitter when you have television?

In the reading, A Social History of Media and Technology in Schools, Grace talks about her grandmother and mother, and how media and technology has developed within schools over the past two centuries. After reading i began to think how her mothers and grandmothers were her care taker. It made me think of my own experiences with babysitting and how dramatically it has changed in just a few years. I remember being 15 when i first began babysitting. I would spend the night helping them with their homework, feeding, bathing, and playing with them. It was only ten years ago when they would be begging for one more board game or 2 more hours out side! Just the other day I babysat a boy I've known since he was four. When he was four he loved to draw, color, and use his imagination to pretend he was in space. Now he is almost eight and all he did that night was watch movies play video games and browse his ipad. All i thought that night was, "what is an eight year old doing with his own ipad?" After two hours of being there I was even bored! It made me wonder what i was even there for? My purpose for being there is of course for his care and safety. But i was no longer his source of entertainment or interaction. Technology is playing such a big role in education but it makes you think about its role in the house hold as well.

Interactivity #1

Interactivity #1

Step 1Identify and ranking the THREE most influential communications technologies in your life up to this point.

Facebook
Skype
Email

Step 2: “Olivia’s Story”
Olivia is a young student who owns a cell phone, ipod and is a member of a social network. Like Olivia many of my future students will also have such technological influences in their everyday life. In order to keep my lessons relevant and relatable it is important to understand why Olivia is interested in technology and how she uses it. Familiarizing myself of technology that interest my students will help me develop lessons which link technology to the curriculum. By knowing Olivia's
interest in Myspace and her ability to design pages, I will be able to integrate technology into my lesson plans. For example having the children create their own academic blogs or professional webpages. Because i know Olivia owns and is capable of using an ipod, I can have my students think conceptually by using music to create imagery in parallel to lyrics. By understanding my students’ interests and uses of technology will benefit their learning.

Step 3&4:
The three technologies I feel have impacted the way I learn new information are email, Skype, and Facebook. Skype has given my family away to communicate with family members from all over the world. My parents were both born and raised in Brazil. I am fortunate enough to know two languages, both English and Portuguese. Skype has given me the opportunity to speak with family members and practice Portuguese more frequently. Through Skype I have learned how to read and write the language. Facebook is a tool I use as a way to make contacts both socially and professionally. By using Facebook I am able to connect with different groups, organizations, businesses and artists. After watching both videos it is clear to me that both the students and I use technology in very similar ways. We use it to connect in away where there is no limitations in time and space between peers.
